Easy makeup look and my current skincare routine

easy red lips make up look and skincare routine featuring Dermalogica from Pure Beauty

Having nice makeup and hair helps me feel ready to start my day, get out of the house and do something. I’m not saying I wouldn’t be seen dead without it and do have minimal makeup and even make up free days but I always feel good when I wear a red or bright lip during the day and those that know me would say it’s rare that you would catch me at an event or party without a full-on red pout.

An easy red lipstick make up look and Dermalogica skincare routine.

This particular red is Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain L’Extrait Lipgloss (why are the french ones always such a mouthful!) for me it’s pretty much ultimate packaging porn and has the nicest, poshest silver casing I think I’ve ever seen it even comes with a mirror, bonus! It is a gloss, but it’s a semi-matte velvet finish which I personally feel is easier to carry off than full-on gloss. I teamed it with a quick simple neutral eye and black liquid liner with a very slight flick at the corners. This look took me less than 10 minutes and I piled my hair up into a bun.

Wearing red or bright lippy is all about having the confidence to carry it off. So throw caution to the wind and slap it on ladies! I promise you, your complexion will look brighter, your teeth will look whiter and you’ll get a strong but wearable look with minimum effort.

I am a self-confessed makeup and skincare junkie and I like to change things up by adding new products to my arsenal especially at this time of year when the weather changes. A lot of products and brands I’ve stayed faithful to for years but every now and then I like to treat myself and it gives me immense happiness researching, choosing and trying out new products. I also try and go for a facial once a month or so. This gives me time to relax, think and destress and for a professional to have a look at my skin and recommend products to try.

High on my list of hero brands are Dermalogica not only are their products amazing to use they are experts in prescriptive facials and the girls really know their stuff. There are lots of products to choose from and one of the best places I’ve found to buy products from online is Pure Beauty an official stockist of the brand so you know you’re getting 100% genuine products at an excellent price point. My favourite products from Dermalogica are:

  • Pre cleanse-this does exactly what it says and completely removes all your makeup ready for your next step cleanser which could be a lovely balm for facial massage.
  • Multi-Active Toner- this contains a refreshing blend of skin-repairing Aloe and soothing Lavender, Balm Mint and Arnica that when sprayed on will add hydration after you’ve cleansed. This is a beautiful face spray, I really rate sprays and find them much better to use than a regular toner on cotton wool.
  • Active Moist-is a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser that absorbs into the skin without a trace and creates an invisible barrier preventing moisture loss. This is ideal for someone like me with normal to oily skin, I can’t really handle a heavy duty moisturiser and like mine to sink in immediately especially in the morning before makeup application.

At the moment I am on the look out for new skincare products. I have been using tropic (all natural all vegan) but I am trying to find something more heavy duty for these new wrinkles age and stress are causing. As for a beauty must have, I am in love with my new find ‘Radiance Veil’ primer from Illamasqua. Under my foundation it brightens the skin and tightens the pores making my foundation go on flawlessly and giving me a dewy glow. X

You look gorgeous as always Amy! I read recently if your make-up is good you can get away with your hair in a bun, and if your hair is good you can get away with minimal make-up. I’ve never used Dermalogica -currently I’m loving Amphora, it’s all natural and has done my sensitive dry combination oily skin the world of good. I’ve recently discovered the joy of red lipstick – took me a long time to realise I ‘could’, but now I love it – my favourite is a Clinique colour pop in poppy something or other xx

I am loving the make up and that red lipstick is stunning and it really suits you. I need to get back into a habit of a regular skin routine. I need something that is quick and easy otherwise I just forget.

You are a gorgeous creature huni! I take my make up off with a wet wipe and only moisturise (before make up) but I do wear a red lip (thanks to you!) so am I forgiven? xxx

Well no I am afraid taking make up off with a wet wipe is a sin in my book! I think I will ask Santa to treat you ;-) You do look bloody good in red lipstick though so are half forgiven xxx

Funny I should see this. I stopped using Dermalogica this year when I finally ran out of my beloved Age Smart Dynamic Skin Recover cream as it became so pricey. Had been a Derma girl for over 10 years. Frankly, I shall be raiding a bank forthwith to go back on it? Why? Because even though the parabens terrify me it is simply the best skincare I’ve ever used and I can SEE how much I’ve aged since I’ve been off it. Thanks for the (intentional) kick up the bum from reading this post, love.

As much as I love red, It doesn’t look that good on my lips so I only use nude shades in general. But it looks great on you so don’t worry! I usually do daily skin routine 3 times a day, clean my face with special soap by biofor, I don’t use too much makeup on my face and when I do, I use thin foundation layers. In the past I was using a lot of makeup and It caused more acne so I gave up on some of my products.
