In the summer holidays we always try and plan nice day trips that don’t cost too much and place an emphasis on good old-fashioned fun. On Thursday we took a short drive to the beautiful Somerset Lavender.
I have never taken my big camera to the lavender fields before and was excited to shoot the kids running around, exploring and having a lovely relaxed afternoon.
I found it quite difficult to get my camera to a setting where it picked up the detail of the lavender and captured the moving children at the same time. Luckily there wasn’t any bright sunlight so eventually I settled on 1/125 ISO 160 and F 5.6 which is probably completely wrong technically, but seemed to work.
I quickly snapped this one of Holly after we’d finished our picnic, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out. I have so many more photographs I want to share so it will be lavender overload here for a bit!

What a stunning shot. I love everything about it: the colours, the composition... very 'Ophelia'

That's a wonderful photo, it looks like the painting Ophelia by Millais, but of course far happier! She looks so content and peaceful. I'd love to visit the lavender fields but for the fact that I've realised they'd be covered in bees and my son is nervous of them!

This shot is perfection. The technicalities are decidedly peculiar, Amy, but you made it work for you and I love what you've done with the editing. Well done!
