Makeup for tanned skin: The only six items you’ll need this summer!

makeup for tanned skin

I’ve been away on my summer hols and have returned rather bronzed so I thought I’d post about my summer holiday makeup and what I’ve been using now my skin is tanned.

I have a fair-ish olive skin tone but when I get some sun I tan quite easily. With this in mind, I popped to Boots before we went away and bought my usual tinted moisturiser two shades up.

I’m actually on my second tube of BareMinerals Complexion Rescue now so I definitely recommend you check it out if you’re looking for something a bit lighter for the summer months. For me to buy anything more than once must mean it’s good! The Complexion Rescue is a tinted gel cream that gives amazing coverage and is very sheer. I’m quite a fan of the shiny face look – in all the right places, obvs- using a tinted moisturiser is best during hot weather as it contains an SPF and isn’t too heavy on the skin.

I keep my eyes pretty simple with a wash of sparkly eyeshadow and my signature black eyeliner: my favourite gel liner is the Benefit push-up liner which is super easy to do a cat eye flick and lasts all day and night. In fact, it’s a bugger to get off so it’s worth investing in an oil-based eye makeup remover to take it off at the end of the day!

For mascara I’ve been using Benefit Roller Lash as recommended by the lovely Cash at The Comeback Mum. When I saw that Cash had posted how much she loves this mascara I wanted to give it a go as her makeup always looks really good. Cash is also rather fond of a red lip, just like moi so it was kind of a given that I’d rate this mascara too. Roller Lash did live up to expectations, giving length plus a lovely long-lasting curl to my lashes. I actually bought two at the airport; a new one for me and one for Holly who loves it too!

For bronzer and highlighter I’ve been using my Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow. You really can’t go wrong with anything from CT in my opinion and this compact has been one of my fav makeup buys this year.

On the lips, I adore to wear coral when my skin is bronzed it’s one of those colours that looks amazing with a tan. I’ve got a few coral lipsticks, Costa Chic from MAC is really nice but I’ve been using my Tom Ford one recently as it doesn’t dry my lips out whereas the MAC one has a bit more of a matte finish.

If you’re going away this summer I think you could get away with taking just these items in your makeup bag and you’re all set.

Who am I kidding? I snuck in a few more items than this but you catch my drift ;-)

The only six items you’ll need in your summer makeup bag!

In a bid to hang onto the tanned skin look a while longer I bought a bottle of the Vita Liberata self-tanning mousse today. I’ve heard amazing things about it, I haven’t used fake tan for years as it is such a faff but I’m quite enjoying having a bit of colour. I’ll be trying it out soon so let me know if you would like to see a review of it!

I used to work for Benefit Cosmetics as a make up artist so I’m a big fan of lots of their stuff too. Have to say I’m still a die hard user of their high tint highlighter liquid for the cheeks and under eyebrows.
In summer I mix it with my foundation for an all over glow. Love that stuff! You look lovely as ever x

Oooh I need to go and check out this BareMinerals Complexion Rescue. I haven’t wanted to wear any foundation as it has been so hot! So I have been wandering around sans make-up, you know that it’s not a good look when your husband tells you that you look really tired and asks if you are feeling peeky. I had better get down to Boots pronto! xxx ps love Benefit make-up!

Looking great. I’ve just come back from holiday and can confirm, I did not need to take my full make-up bag! Mascara, eye liner, lippy, a couple of eyeshadows, blusher, highlighter, bronzer and CC cream was pretty much all I used. The rest was just taking up precious space in my case!

Love how glowy your complexion looks! I’m using the Benefit Rollerlash at the moment and really like it, although it’s not as great at holding a curl as I was promised. Love everything Charlotte Tilbury I’ve tried – that bronzer sounds fab! #TheList

I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought makeup (I know, I’m embarrassed to admit it) and have been looking for some things to try out. Love the sound of the tinted gel.

I don’t have tanned skin and never do unless it’s fake, but have been needing a new mascara. I actually had my makeup done at Benefit for my party last week and loved it. I brought a lippy and the lip stain which I adore, so I may have to get the mascara. I love Mac too. My fav lippy at the moment though is my Yves Saint Laurent one it feels amazing. But I did buy a cheaper Rimmel one this week Best Of The Best it is a great Red. #TheList

What I really want to know is what eye make up remover you like. I’m still on the look out for a half decent one. I’m not a big make up girl but like a bit of liquid eye liner sometimes. #TheList

Ah I have actually been blogging about skincare today and highly rate the Botanics Micellar cleansing solution which is fab for getting liquid eyeliner off. I also like the YSL one I can’t think of the name but it looks blue in the bottle and is oil based so great for getting off glitter (if you go in for that sort of thing ever)

I have quite terrible skin without makeup so I really wouldn’t be without it. Although a tan seems to hide a multitude of sins! I don’t think I could ditch my foundation for a tinted moisturizer which is BareMinerals too, but I could definitely get on board with the gorgeous lashes and lips! I’d never heard of any of these so I’m looking forward to trying a couple, I’m terrible at eyeliner but it always looks so lovely. You look gorj too, a lovely tan, I hope you had a fab time! xx

Tanning hides so much! Honestly, my eye bags look so much better now they are blended in with the rest of my face a bit! I probably shouldn’t promote them but you might find the odd few minutes on a sunbed helps your skin. When I was in my 20s my skin was so hormonal and I suffered with breakouts and going on the sunbed actually did help-I think it’s fine as long as you don’t overdo it..Try the lippy my lovely it would look bloody fab on your gorgeous lips! xx

I am normally a kind of milk bottle white, but I have really caught some colour (yayy) I have literally been wearing a little bit of powder, mascara and blusher. However I should really invest in something a little better so I will be definitely taking a look at those products.

Do you have any tips for my white legs (hehe)

Such a perfect post as I too am rather bronzed at the moment! Hurray for sunshine, I love it, but my skin is quite dry. I revert to my nana’s favourite Nivea cream, Cheap but great and not too heavy for my skin. My nana lived until 93 and had gorgeous skin! She drank water too…
I am going to try the benefit liner as mine keeps disappearing! that is so annoying. Thanks for the tips! #thelist

We go away on Monday to sunny Cyprus so I came across your post just in time! I still need to go through what I need to take in my make-up bag. I don’t usually use a tinted moisturiser because of my oily skin but it sounds so much better than wearing heavy foundation that’ll more than likely melt off.
I may have to add the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue to my list of duty free purchases! x #TheList
