Photography Focus with Aby Moore

Amy with camera 1

I have great pleasure in introducing a brand new feature: Photography Focus. I have been really lucky to interview some brilliant photographers that I admire immensely. I am always looking for tips to improve my own photography and so these interviews are as much for me as they are for you. I often find myself wondering what camera has been used or the editing process that certain images have been through so hopefully everyone can pick up some tips and ideas from this series of interviews.

This week one of my all time fav photographers Aby gives us an insight into her photography. Aby takes the most beautiful portraits of her daughter, Ava. You can catch her daily over on Instagram and on her fabulous blog You Baby Me Mummy.

1. What camera do you use?
I have three! (not including my phone) I mainly use my big camera which is a Canon 100d. However, I have a Canon G7X for vlogging – Love the flip screen and I also have a Panasonic Lumix G80 which is awesome too.
2. What is your go-to lens?
Although I love my 55mm lens, the one I use most often is the 18-55mm as it gives me the most flexibility when chasing after a small person. If I know I will be able to keep close to her I would always go for the 55mm one.
3. What do you find yourself taking pics of the most
No question, my daughter. She is my most favourite subject. Other than her, people or horses would get my vote.
4. Tell me a bit about your editing process.
I edit all of my photos in Lightroom (which I adore!). I created a filter which was exactly how I want my pictures to look, so they all get that, then I adjust from there depending on the exposure of the original photo.
5. In your opinion what elements make up the perfect image?
For me, the perfect image is one which makes you feel something.
6. Do you get in front of the camera?
Not that often, but I definitely want to take more pictures of me and my daughter.
7. If you use Instagram, is your feed perfectly curated or everyday spontaneous?  Tell me why.
My Instagram is curated, edited and scheduled but they are real everyday moment that were spontaneous, I just didn’t share them straight away.
8. Do you vlog or use your camera for videography?
I do vlog and think the Canon G7x is perfect. I love the size of it and it is so easy to focus. You can make sure you are always where you should be with the flip screen. If I was shooting a family video I would use my Lumix as it records in 4k video.
9. What photography skill would you most like to master (if any)?
Capturing light. I think it is a real skill to understand fully how to capture light with maximum effect. If I ever do, it is more by luck than judgement!
10. I know this is a hard one: Of all the photographs you’ve ever taken, which one are you most proud of and why?
Ooh, this is hard! I have different photos for different reasons. O.k, this one as I think it looks like she is flying and I adore her red shoes!
Thank you so much to Aby for taking part! If you would like to be interviewed please do drop me a line or email me on amy@amytreasure.com. You don’t need to be a professional photographer or shoot with a DSLR to join in.

I’d really love to learn more about photography. I’m lusting after a G7X but not likely to happen anytime soon so I’ll have to just make do with my trusty iPhone for now! I love this photo of Aby’s daughter, so cute and she does look like she’s flying! Will be watching this series with interest and look forward to picking up more tips from the pros! #TheListLinky
