A lovely lady from Baker Days got in touch to ask if I’d like to review a cake and give one away to a lucky reader in honour of upcoming Valentine’s day. Now, any one offering me cake there’s a pretty much safe bet I’m going to say ‘yes please!’
Excited, I went on to the Baker Days website to chose my cake from the ‘Valentine’s section’ of which there were many designs. In fact the website has probably the largest collection of occasion cakes, birthday cakes and cupcakes I’ve ever seen. They can also be personalised, you can even have your own photograph made into a cake, what a lovely touch.
I’m sitting having breakfast the following day and hear the usual rustling of post coming through the letterbox accompanied by a gentle thud on the mat. It was my cake, delivered by the postman through the letterbox. Yep that’s right I said letterbox, such a unique idea! I must admit I was ever so slightly worried that said beautiful cake might not have survived the rigours of Royal Mail. I opened up the sturdy cardboard box to find a tin inside which contained my cake. Completely unscathed, phew. There was also a couple of packets of love hearts (quickle snapped up by Rose) a party blower and candles which I thought was sweet.
Onto the cake itself then, I had intended to present it thoughtfully to Mr T and enjoy a slice with him that evening but it was just too tempting so I decided it was only fair I should test it immediately for the sake of the blog. It would be rude not to, no? I can confirm that this is a fabulously tasting cake, I could immediately tell that it was made with real butter (I bake a lot!) and had a good bounce and springy texture-exactly what you want and expect from a sponge. The icing was lovely too and stretched beyond the edges of the cake which is fab as personally I want a decent amount of icing. There are 4 good sized slices per letterbox cake or 6 if you’re a bit less generous. As well as the letterbox kind, Baker Day cakes are available in larger party sizes too.
You can even take advantage of the next day guaranteed delivery service (UK only) perfect for a last minute gift.
