Dino facepaint

I have lived in Bristol my whole life, there are many wonderful things to do and places to go; one of my personal favourite places is Bristol Zoo Gardens I’ve been visiting the zoo for many years, I have memories of going as a child and of taking Lewis and Holly when they were small, as the years have gone by we now take little Rose along on our adventures too.

Merrygoround Bristol Zoo

If it wasn’t for Bristol Zoo, I may not even be here to take my children as my own parents met at the zoo right outside the penguin enclosure! So to say I have fond feelings for the place is actually a bit of an understatement.

Remarkably Bristol Zoo Gardens is the fifth oldest zoo in the world and since opening the gates in 1836 the zoo has welcomed over 90 million guests and helped to save over 175 species from extinction in human care and in the wild.

Bristol Zoo has evolved and changed over the years, new and exotic species of animals have been added. Enclosures have been improved, and the zoo does a lot in terms of important breeding programmes and supporting conservation projects across the globe.

Dinomania Bristol Zoo

Each year throughout the spring and summer Bristol Zoo Gardens puts on various exhibits. This year the dinosaurs have made an eagerly anticipated comeback. Eleven enormous, life-like animatronic dinosaurs have made the zoo their home taking visitors on a journey that started 65 million years ago. On a recent visit, we discovered that not only are you able to walk around and experience the thrilling dinosaur exhibit, there is also a section of dinosaur themed activities in the Dino-Hub. We were able to take part in a fossil dig (Rose’s favourite) and busy ourselves with the many interactive games, it was brilliant fun and Rose left the zoo totally enthused and chatting away about all the dinosaurs she’d seen.

BRISTOL ZOO outdoor CINEMA event

Not only have we got everything I’ve already mentioned above to look forward to this summer, Bristol Zoo is also hosting a cinematic experience with a difference! The big screen is coming to Bristol Zoo and this is your opportunity to adventure around the zoo discovering all Dinomania has to offer then pick a comfy spot and immerse yourself in a lion themed movie or one that will whiz you back to the 80s (and is one of my all-time fav films!) See details for what’s screening below.

You’ll be able to hear the sizzle of the fired up BBQ and the other food outlets will be open too, there will also be plenty of popcorn, ice cream, sweets and drinks making this a true cinema experience that little ones and adults will love. The films will be shown in the picturesque botanic garden area of the zoo, as the sun goes down over the city grab yourself a blanket to watch a movie.

Open air cinemas hold a special place in our imaginations and no wonder. There are few more memorable experiences than settling down to watch a classic film with a crowd of all different ages held spellbound by one, giant screen.

Rose adores going to the cinema so that together with the fact it’s at the Zoo will be such an exciting event for us to do with her this summer. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity and book your tickets now as I imagine they will sell out really quickly. Hopefully, we’ll see some of you there!
