We are midway through the year, can you even believe it? As the longest day beckons, we draw closer to Father’s Day which falls on Sunday the 19th June. It’s also Mr T’s 40th birthday a couple of days after so something tells me he’s going to be thoroughly spoilt this year.
This week, Matalan challenged us to select a gift for Mr T and we were given a £25.00 budget to do so. Now, I don’t know about you but £25.00 doesn’t get me too far in the shops these days so I must admit I was wondering if we’d be able to come up with something decent gift-never mind a whole outfit.
Turns out Matalan have some seriously stylish clothes for unbelievable value.
Phew! The challenge is on…
I do find Mr T quite difficult to buy for, it’s not often that I’d go out and buy his clothes as he is quite particular (read:fussy) when it comes to his style. Luckily there are some fab recommendations over on the Matalan site where you can take a look and decide what sort of ‘dad personality’ your fella falls into. They have gift ideas to suit all styles from ‘chilled dad’ to ‘stylish dad’. We went with ‘suave dad’ because Mr T is a fan of tailoring so I thought this suited his personality best.
It’s been a few years since I went to our local Matalan store but as soon as we walked in I spotted loads of things I knew I wanted to buy (there’s a really nice home section too!) I explained to little Rose that we were there to pick out an outfit for daddy and apart from the fact she got very distracted by all the lovely clothes – she ended up convincing me to buy her a new dress, shoes AND sunglasses, ahem – I think she did rather well.
Here’s a short video of us choosing the outfit:
There is a huge selection of menswear in store, in fact, it looked to me that the men’s section was pretty much the same size as the women’s. I do think that stores can alienate guys a bit by having loads of choice for the ladies and just a small corner for men but Matalan have it spot on by offering a huge variety of clothing for chaps; they really have got you covered whatever your style.
With the £25.00 budget, we could have put together lots of different outfits as well as go to town on extras like sunglasses, belts and socks etc. I couldn’t help but have a little look around for myself and the kids (well it would be rude not to!) and I picked up some lovely items for our forthcoming holiday. I’ll be heading back in with Lewis to stock up on shorts for the summer, I have honestly never seen such a variety of shorts in one shop. They had so many different colours and cuts and some for as little as £6.00 which is incredible value for money.
So, although it’s not quite Father’s day just yet we decided to give Mr T his outfit early. Mainly because Rose blurted out that we’d been shopping and then presented him with the special Disney Frozen bag she picked especially for him, too cute!
We really were spoilt for choice but in the end we went for a very smart navy blue trilby hat (hats are his fav accessory) a pair of tailored shorts and a t-shirt with pink stripes; not something that he would buy for himself but I thought it lifted the outfit by adding a bit of colour and interest with the Breton striped tee-very suave, Ooh La-La. I hope you’ll agree the whole outfit is totally on-trend.
Here’s where the budget went:
Trilby hat: £6.00
Slim fit tailored chino shorts: £12.00
Striped t-shirt: £6.00
Total: £24.00 what a bargain!
Mr T loved his outfit and it made it even more special that Rose had chosen it for Father’s day.
Doesn’t he look suave?
What’s your ‘dad personality?’ I’d love to hear in the comments how you would describe the dad in your life.
You can order your presents from Matalan online in time for Father’s day up until Sunday 12th June or pop into your local store for a browse.
