On Thursday, we popped across the Severn bridge from Bristol to Cardiff to watch Peppa Pig's Surprise! live show. All week I had been explaining to Rose that we were going to watch Peppa, she didn't quite understand the concept of going to see a life-sized version of Peppa and friends in a theatre and so I wasn't sure what she would make of it, although I had a feeling she would love it considering I am pretty sure she is Peppa's biggest fan!
When we arrived at New Theatre in Cardiff it was absolute fever pitch, all the children were super excited and literally squealing with delight. We bought Rose a spinning Peppa glow stick which she was very impressed with, found our seats and waited as she waved her new toy excitedly.
It’s a lovely day and Peppa is playing outside with her friends. Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig have got a surprise for her and her younger brother George but no matter how hard they try, they cannot guess what it is. In PEPPA PIG’S SURPRISE audiences will enjoy interactive fun, games and, of course, surprises. This charming, colourful new show features new songs and new life-size puppets. Peppa Pig’s Surprise promises to be the perfect theatre show for all pre-schoolers.
The show started with a fun game of hide and seek where the human character Daisy was searching for Peppa and the others. The audience cheered with delight as different characters appeared and then disappeared behind the scenery. Rose was absolutely mesmerised as the story unfolded, we have taken her to the cinema once and she wouldn't sit still so we had to leave but watching this show she was transfixed! She was a bit little to sit in the seat on her own, but most of the younger ones were sat on parent's laps so they could get a good view of the stage.
At one point during the performance, George was crying and real water spurted out and sprayed the audience, which Rose found absolutely hilarious!
The talented cast are Melanie Ann, Emma Grace Arends, Liam Farrow, Auriol Hatcher, Emma Hilts, Lauren Martin and David Sandham the show features sing-along songs and music will again be provided by BAFTA award-winning Mani Svavarsson.
The actors that operate the life-sized puppets are fab and the musical numbers are brilliantly arranged with a five-part harmony in places that might have got lost on some of the kids but was certainly appreciated by the musician in me! Rose absolutely loved it when one of the songs included the 'Bing Bong' lyrics in the chorus, she joined in and sang every word. It was such a delight to see her enjoying herself so much.
Audience members are invited to get up on their feet and participate in a dance towards the end of the show. We were sat next to the aisle and it was sweet to see Rose have the confidence to get up and dance along with all the other children, she really had the best time.
Peppa Pig live is a wonderful show and I would highly recommend you go and see it, I can't fault it at all. It was a wonderful way to spend and afternoon and we would definitely go and see it again.
There are still tickets on sale for the 2015/16 tour but they are selling out fast so to avoid disappointment you can buy your tickets for the Peppa Pig live tour here.

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for posting all of the quality photos of the Peppa characters' costumes. I am embroiled in figuring out how to render Grandpa Pig as a three dimensional character (my three-year-old's heart's desire for Halloween) and while his costume will be nowhere near as elaborate, at least I have an idea of how to shape the snout and where to adhere the eyes! Thank you ever so much.
