A quick and easy Salted Caramel Milkshake recipe made with vanilla ice cream, caramel and whipped cream - it takes only minutes to prepare. Chances are you have the ingredients sitting in your store cupboard and freezer, so, what are you waiting for?
For this recipe, you will need: Vanilla ice cream, milk, a tin of caramel, salt and whipped cream (wafers and salted caramel fudge make nice toppings)
Is it fair to say that you're either a milkshake type of person or you're not? I will always go the extra mile and order an indulgent milkshake to go alongside a burger and fries, whereas my husband would probably opt for a diet coke.
I love that slightly sicky I-ate-and-drank-too-much kind of feeling that you get afterwards!
Satisfied and a bit grossed out at yourself all at once.
Call me a weirdo but if you know, you know...
The problem with buying milkshakes out is the price, they add on at least an extra £4.50 to a meal. So frugal as I am, I decided to start making my own milkshakes at home. All you need are a few simple ingredients to make a copycat Diner-style shake.
Oh, and the more over the top the milkshake is the better, don't you agree?
I'm talking wafers, drizzled caramel sauce and a piece of salted caramel fudge perched precariously on top of a whole lotta whipped cream. Heaven!
I used a tin of store-bought Carnation caramel to flavour this milkshake but you could absolutely make your own salted caramel sauce. There's a really good recipe on Sally's Baking Addiction if you want to give it a try.
To keep this recipe really quick and easy I used whipped cream from a spray can but you could whisk two tablespoons of icing sugar to half a cup of whipping cream if you prefer.
CAN I MAKE A MILKSHAKE WITHOUT A BLENDER?
Yes, you can. If you have a cocktail shaker handy you can add all the ingredients to that and shake vigorously for a few minutes. If not, put all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix with a handheld electric whisk or whisk everything together by hand.
CAN I MAKE A SALTED CARAMEL MILKSHAKE WITHOUT ICE CREAM?
Yes, just add a cup of extra milk and a few ice cubes. You can add a teaspoon of sugar or vanilla extract to sweeten to taste. Your milkshake won't be as thick without ice cream but the flavours will still be amazing.
