A super simple green smoothie bowl made with superfood spirulina. This smoothie bowl recipe takes minutes to make and you can completely customise your toppings! What's not to love?
I think everyone should try spirulina, especially if you're veggie or vegan like me. If eating a green smoothie bowl that looks like something a mermaid might have for breakfast can't tempt you then I don't know what will!
I aim to eat vegan at least 5 times a week and the rest of the time I'm vegetarian. And what's the first thing people ask when they find out you follow a vegan lifestyle: "but where do you get your protein?"
Yawn.
Obviously, we all know that protein is found in lots of forms other than meat but it doesn't hurt getting an extra big boost in the form of the superfood spirulina. Did you know that just 3g of spirulina contains approximately 60% protein as well as vitamins A, K1, K2, B12 and iron, manganese and chromium? It's got more iron than spinach and contains those youth-boosting cancer-fighting antioxidants that we all crave. It's seriously amazing stuff and if you haven't incorporated it into your diet yet, you really should.
I remember the first time I tried a teaspoon of spirulina dissolved in cold water. I'm not going to lie, it tasted like foul stagnant pond water - not that I've ever drunk from a pond but you know what I mean - it was disgusting. However, if you follow my recipe I promise you, you will love it and it will leave you glowing and bursting with energy for the rest of the day.
Whipping up a green smoothie bowl fit for a mermaid (or merman!) is easy peasy and my new Magimix Power Blender made seriously light work of the frozen ingredients. Shall we talk about my blender of dreams for a moment? I'm really impressed with it for the following reasons:
- It looks really slick
- The jug is huge - you could make smoothie bowls for your entire family in one go
- It's a lot quieter than I expected
- It has 4 settings: Desserts, Ice, Soups, Smoothies
- It's heat resistant
- It's a real pleasure to use
- It has a cleaning function. Enough said!
I love it and I can't believe I've survived so long with my old cheapy blender. I'll be going smoothie bowl mad over the next few weeks on the blog, so check back for more recipes.
Let's blend, shall we?
